SLCA Shares Utah’s Climbing Legacy at the Utah Trails Conference

This April, the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance (SLCA) was proud to represent Utah’s climbing community at the 2025 Utah Trails Conference in Kanab, where we presen ted on the importance of preserving and investing in climbing landscapes across the state.

SLCA’s presentation, “Preserving Utah’s Climbing Legacy,” highlighted the ongoing stewardship work in the Wasatch—including the Alpenbock Loop, the nation’s first climbing area listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the largest climbing access trail project in the U.S. We shared how strategic infrastructure—like professionally built trails, fixed anchor maintenance, and public engagement through tours and films—ensures long-term sustainability for climbing access.

We also introduced our upcoming short film, Alpenbock, which celebrates Utah’s climbing pioneers and the culture and conservation values that still define Little Cottonwood Canyon today. With over 8,000 climbing routes across the state, SLCA emphasized that climbing is a core part of Utah’s outdoor recreation economy and heritage—and it deserves recognition, stewardship, and support.
