Anchor Maintenance: Book Cliff aka Scout Lake - Uintas
During the week of July 8th - 12th, the Anchors crew headed out to the Uintas for some anchor work and to beat the valley heat. The crew went up to Book Cliff, also known as Scout Lake, to replace some anchors from the late 90s and early 2000s. Scout Lake has been a popular location for Boy Scouts due to its close proximity to Camp Steiner. Scouts have used this wall for both rappelling and climbing. This location is also wonderful for guides and other climbers given its top-rope accessibility, range of grades, and amazing views.
During this week, the crew was able to replace all of the aging anchors on the wall, including routes like Blues Streak (5.10b), Hero Maker (5.11a), and Green Eggs and Ham (5.8+). During this visit, we were also able to inspect the wall known as "The Purgatory Wall." We added chains to the routes Modest Yuppie (5.11d) and Corporate Hippie (5.11d) to allow for an easier descent.
Camp Steiner is under new management and may see an increase in climbing activity in the future. That being said, it is open to the public and for everyone to enjoy its amazing rock, position, and proximity to Scout Lake itself.
