Climbing Stewards Training
REGISTER NOW! Join the SLCA & the Access Fund-Jeep Conservation Team for professional climbing stewardship training right here in our own backyard. This event is in partnership with the Salt Lake Ranger District of the USFS. This training will provide local climbing organization leaders, volunteers and land managers with the highly technical skills & techniques needed to manage for climber impacts, while still providing an enjoyable & safe experience for visitors. This unique 4-day event will feature professional training both in the classroom and in the field. Upon completion, attendees will be encouraged to make use of their newly developed skills by taking on stewardship initiatives at their local crags and climbing communities.
Where: Little Cottonwood Canyon - Salt Lake City, UT
When: Wednesday, June 24 - Saturday, June 27
What: Participants will receive training in: Stewardship Basics: conditions at climbing areas, why we need climbing specific stewardship, climbers as a user group, and developing long-term stewardship plans. Trail Basics: use patterns, user considerations, layout, design, and construction (working on approach trails below Cresent Crack) Staging Areas/Crags: use patterns, user considerations, construction techniques (working at staging areas near Mexican Crack & Crescent Crack) Bouldering Areas: use patterns, user considerations, construction techniques (working in Special Garden bouldering area)
Logistics: This is a FREE training program, however participants are responsible for their own food, lodging or camping supplies and logistics. Attendees should plan on bringing water, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, work gloves, rain/cold/hot weather clothing. Most activities will be outside, please plan accordingly. Little Cottonwood Canyon camping can be reserved at Tanners Flat, (we encourage you to reserve as soon as possible)
