Anchor Maintenance: Rock Canyon

Between storms during the week of May 6th, the Anchor Crew visited Rock Canyon for the first time. After spending a day doing some reconnaissance and talking to locals, we focused our attention on three zones: Tinker Toys, The Kitchen, and The Appendage. Despite having only two days, we were able to accomplish a significant amount of work. Tinker Toys and The Kitchen saw many anchor updates since these areas are often used as top rope zones. Updating the old washer stacks and rusty chains to stainless steel glue-ins and chains now makes for a better experience. Routes like Barbie (5.8) and K’Nex (5.8) received lead bolt upgrades. A total of four anchors were updated on popular routes at The Kitchen.

Over at The Appendage, routes like The Bulge (5.11b) and Only Wimps Top Rope (5.8) saw a full update with stainless steel glue-in bolts. Over a two-day period, we were able to:

Routes Visited: 12

Anchors Replaced: 46

The crew will most defiantly be heading back this fall to continue its work in Rock Canyon. Head over to our anchors page to submit an anchor observation and tio see a full list of routes maintained at Rock Canyon.
