Big Cottonwood Canyon SR-190 Study: Climbers Voice Is Needed

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is studying future plans for Big Cottonwood Canyon (BCC), and this is a critical moment to shape decisions that will impact climbers for years to come. As climbers, we know the value of BCC's world-class quartzite cliffs, year-round recreation opportunities, and the need for sustainable solutions that balance access and conservation.

UDOT’s Big Cottonwood Canyon SR-190/Ft. Union to Brighton Study is accepting public comments until December 13th, and your feedback is vital. Key issues include:

  • Improving roadside safety and parking near climbing areas like Challenge Buttress, Storm Mountain, and S-Curves

  • Developing affordable, year-round transit options that benefit all users

  • Including climbers’ needs in long-term canyon planning
