What's happening in lower Little Cottonwood with UDOT construction?

Wondering what's happening in lower Little Cottonwood with UDOT construction? See updates below and sign up for updates from UDOT at cottonwoodcanyons@utah.gov and follow the Little Cottonwood Canyon traffic app here: https://cottonwoodcanyons.udot.utah.gov/canyon-road-information/

The SLCA has met multiple times with UDOT regarding the lower LCC construction and have gotten on the ground to show them where the trails and bouldering resources are. They have assured us that this resource will not be destroyed. As climbers, keep an eye out on this work and sound the alert if you see climbing resources being threatened. In the meantime, it's best to use the lower LCC Park & Ride and the Alpenbock Trail and the Grit Mill Connector Trail to access the Secret Garden and Cabbage Patch boulders in lower LCC.

ATTENTION: S.R. 190 and S.R. 210 Construction Project Details Below.

LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON TRAVELER IMPACTS/RESTRICTIONS

Pedestrians and cyclists are restricted during construction hours (Monday through Friday during daylight hours) throughout the canyon. Please use Big Cottonwood Canyon as a cycling alternative. Cyclists and pedestrians traveling in Little Cottonwood Canyon should use caution in work zones and obey all flagger and traffic control directions. These directions may include walking bicycles through short sections of the work zone and/or no access as needed.

No parking in the construction areas. Vehicles parked within the construction zone will be towed.

Expect lane closures and one-way traffic. Obey all flagger or temporary signal directions.

Wide loads larger than 10 ft. are restricted: those who need to access the canyon with loads wider than 10 ft. need to contact the Public Involvement Team (see information below).

LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON (S.R. 210) MERGE LANE:

What: Crews will continue to install curb and gutter on the north side of S.R. 210. Paving is expected to take place during the week of October 12. Those commuting and recreating in the area should expect crews in the road and on the shoulders, delays, and lane restrictions.

Where: S.R. 210 at the S.R. 209 connection near the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon (milepost 3.4 – 4.3).

When: Working hours for this project are Monday – Friday during daylight hours. The project is expected to continue through October 2020.

Why: UDOT is constructing a merge lane as an addition of continuous movement from S.R. 209 to S.R. 210.

LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON (S.R. 210) GRIT MILL:

What: Shoulder work continues this week on Little Cottonwood Canyon Road as crews install the remaining pipe and storm drain boxes. Preparation work for new asphalt is nearly complete. As early as Wednesday, Oct. 7, asphalt operations will begin. Drivers can expect one-way traffic with flagging operations, lane restrictions and traffic delays. Access to Wasatch Resort Road will remain open to residents. Parking is not allowed in the Grit Mill area or S.R. 210 shoulders during construction. We encourage parking only in designated areas.

Where: S.R. 210 at the old Grit Mill area (MP 4.35-4.56) and Wasatch Resort Road.

When: Working hours for this project are Monday-Friday, starting at 6 a.m. during daylight hours. The project is expected to be complete by Fall 2020.

Why: The USDA Forest Service and Salt Lake County are working with UDOT to install a new parking lot at the old Grit Mill location. This project will increase the availability of designated parking areas by providing 32 parking stalls, 2 handicap parking stalls and a restroom facility. It will also align the new parking lot entrance with a realignment of Wasatch Resort Road
